Food Is Medicine

It is no secret that if we want to live a healthy life and avoid health diseases, then we must lead a lifestyle that is rich in physical activity and a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. There is nothing like biting into a fresh fruit or vegetable to satisfy the craving our body has for the nutrients and vitamins found in them. Fruits and vegetables are rich in essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibers, and other beneficial components that are recommended by health professionals as a vital factor of a healthy diet. Experts believe that certain foods can be used as medicine to support the treatment of chronic diseases, even prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and cancer.

Depending on the condition and stage, your health provider may prescribe medication. You should always follow your doctors orders. However, health experts from Harvard, Stanford, the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the American Diabetes Association, all agree that a balanced diet, full of fruits, vegetables, bread, dairy, protein, nuts, and natural oils are a key component to treat and promote a healthier body. It is important to consult with your doctor, registered dietitian, and healthcare team to determine a personalized nutrition plan that supports optimal health.
